During the weekend I was so tired that I made a very serious mistake for my health. I fell asleep with the contact lenses. Carelessness could have caused some kind of eye discomfort, because if I scratched my eye and some bacteria were found, I could have suffered an infection. As happened to me more than 10 years ago when I was in university. I remember waking up with a red and swollen eye. This time, I woke up early in the morning and took them off.
Caring for the eyes is very important and sometimes we do not understand the delicacy of this part of the body, which -in a way- remains exposed unless we blink. Eye infections can occur in one of the two and affect the nerve, cornea, or surface of the eyelids, according to MedlinePlus. The symptoms are often: swelling, itching and redness. The most commons are:
* Conjunctivitis: known as "red eye". Conjunctivitis is usually due to an infection. Children have conjunctivitis frequently and it is highly contagious.
Stye - bulging of the eyelid that occurs when bacteria from the skin enter the hair follicle of an eyelash.
If you have any of these symptoms, immediately consult your doctor for an evaluation. Remember that the eyes are very delicate. Take good care of them!
