There are still many people who are determined to completely eliminate fats from their diet, convinced that this will improve their health and lose weight. But the reality is that, as in a typical Hollywood movie, in the world of fats there is a clear division between the bad and the good, and as in the somewhat more complex works of cinema, sometimes the bad are seductive and the good ones are not so attractive.

Among the fat stars, olive oil occupies an indisputable first place, both for its benefits and for its intensity and variety of flavors. But there is a whole universe of oils, each with its peculiarities and its specific uses. One of the brightest among these supporting characters is Canola oil. Canola oil is the result of the improvement of the original rapeseed oil through studies and cultivations carried out in Canada (hence its name, short for Canadian Oil, Low Acid), to improve its quality for human consumption. Contrary to rumors of its toxicity, Canola oil has not been shown to pose any danger, as recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Health benefits

In addition to its many uses, including biodegradable fuel, Canola oil is characterized by its versatility in cooking, thanks to its mild flavor and texture. For this reason, it can be used as a frying oil as well as a dressing.

But perhaps most seductive are its favorable health properties:

• It has the lowest percentage of saturated fats of all the oils consumed in the US

• It provides a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids such as Omega 3, Omega 9 and Omega 6.

• It is a good source of vitamin E, so it has antioxidant properties.
