During the summer, we choose to treat ourselves to an additional culinary treat because we are more relaxed, we grill outdoors, we go to the beach to sunbathe and we do outdoor activities. Bread, ice cream, rice, and cold pasta are almost always on the menu. The bad news is that those carbohydrates turn into sugar. This leads us to gain a few pounds. However, another consequence could be a disease such as diabetes, and a recent study associates excessive consumption with a predisposition to acquire breast cancer in adult women.
The study by the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France, led by Isabelle Romieu, found a possible relationship between breast cancer and having high levels of glucose in the body in those women who do not have stable levels of estrogen. As we know, processed foods like donuts, cookies, cakes, white flours increase these sugar levels. Fruits have, but the calorie content is much lower.
According to the article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, in those postmenopausal women there were 158 cases of breast cancer in those who consumed more sugar. Meanwhile, among those who consumed less sugar there were only 111. If you have any questions about carbohydrates, consult your doctor.
