Although summer is coming to an end and we are showing less and less skin, we will always have a reason to want to lose weight and look good: a wedding that we are going to attend, a gathering of friends or a trip. If you haven't led a lifestyle during these months that includes healthy nutrition and a regular exercise plan, you are probably tempted by the idea of a diet that guarantees you lose weight fast and without much effort. The cabbage soup diet promises just that: You can lose up to 10 pounds in a week. But, beware, you should bear in mind that this implies eating a very limited list of foods with very few calories during the 7 days, with the expected nutritional deficiency that this brings with it.
Although this diet has been discussed for a long time, it is not even endorsed by a doctor, much less proven by scientific studies. It also cannot be personalized. It does not include recommendations for physical exercise, nor advice on behavior changes or bad eating habits.
What is the diet?
• The plan offers a very strict list of what you can eat every day of the week. You should eat at home because the suggested foods are not found in most restaurants.
• The diet should be done only for a week. If you want to continue losing weight, you must wait a while before going back to dieting, again for a week.
• It is recommended to drink plenty of water and not drink alcohol.
Plan for 7 days
1st day: Fat-free cabbage soup and all the fruits you want, except bananas. You can drink unsweetened tea, coffee without cream or sugar, cranberry juice, or water.
Day 2: Fat-free cabbage soup, all the low-calorie vegetables you want, except beans, peas, or corn, and a roasted potato with butter.
3rd day: Cabbage soup without fat and a combination of the fruits and vegetables mentioned above.
4th day: Cabbage soup without fat, up to 8 bananas and two glasses of skim milk.
5th day: Fat-free cabbage soup, up to 20 ounces of beef, chicken or fish, up to 6 fresh tomatoes and at least 6 or 8 glasses of water.
6th day: Cabbage soup without fat, up to 3 beef steaks and all the vegetables you want.
7th day: Cabbage soup without fat, up to two cups of brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and all the vegetables you want.
