We ask Dr. Maribel Pedrozo, The Beauty Alchemist, who will help us with some recommendations that will help us renew our skin every season

“As a beauty expert I always insist on the importance of making sunscreen your best ally, this always, in all seasons of the year. In addition to the importance of taking care of the cleanliness of our skin and keeping it well hydrated, "said Pedrozo. "We can say that the key word is renewal, and in the aspect of skin beauty, we translate it into a basic action: exfoliation," he added.

Now, what is it and why is it advisable to exfoliate our skin?

Regarding this, the expert in facial care explained to us that, as part of a natural process, the skin cells undergo a process of renewal by eliminating the dead cells that detach from the epidermis on their own.

However, although removing these dead cells is natural and spontaneous from the skin, they do not fall off immediately and, before being detached, they remain on the epidermis and give that aspect of skin with scales. For this reason, cosmetics have been thought of products that, in a soft and beneficial way for the skin, eliminate dead cells; and thus exfoliants were born.

It is very important that we start exfoliating our skin from the age of 20. This can be done regularly every 20 or 30 days, and make it even more frequent according to the amount of makeup that we apply to our face to prevent the skin from looking dull, dull and even wrinkled. It is very important not to neglect this task to prevent dead skin cells from accumulating on our face.

How to exfoliate the skin according to its type?

Pedrozo did not explain the importance of having an exfoliation routine according to our skin type.

If you have normal skin, you can use any type of scrub, from natural ones to those found on the market. I recommend that you start exfoliating your skin from the age of 20, once a week.

  • If you have dry skin, you should know that it is characterized by accumulating a large amount of dead skin, so it is recommended that you exfoliate it twice a week to prevent the face from looking sad and dull. The creams you should use should be special to soften and hydrate your skin type.
  • If you have oily or combination skin, I recommend deeply exfoliating the skin three times a week, in this way you eliminate sebum from the pores and avoid the accumulation of fat that can generate pimples, pimples and blackheads.
  • What is exfoliation for?

When we exfoliate the skin we are removing all the dead cells and impurities from the skin.

    • By exfoliating we are exerting an action of stimulation of the blood microcirculation, improving the supply of nutrients to the entire treated area.
    • The pores of the skin are free of impurities, which is why we are also facilitating the action of the cosmetic treatments and products that we usually use.
    • The skin gains luminosity and smoothness immediately.

Now, if you think you need a more aggressive exfoliation treatment, I recommend that you visit your trusted beautician or dermatologist and ask them about the different types of exfoliation that you can experience. Pedrozo explained the following:

There are three types of exfoliation or peeling:

    1. Chemical exfoliation: The chemical exfoliation, or chemical peeling, is carried out through chemical agents such as acids and enzymatic preparations that manage to remove skin layers at different depths according to their concentration.

    2. Physical exfoliation: The physical exfoliation can be performed through laser (heat) or cryotherapy (cold).

    3. Mechanical peel or mechanical peel: Like the chemical peel, the mechanical peel can be carried out at different intensities and thus reach deeper or superficial layers of skin. It is done through a mechanical action that you can do at home with a homemade scrub, up to a microdermabrasion treatment in an aesthetic center.

Products with scrub (exfoliants of animal, vegetable, mineral or synthetic origin)

    • Brushes, rollers or sandpaper with microparticles of crystals or stone
    • Gommage: it is a pasty cream or liquid gel. They stick to the skin and once dry, it comes off
    • Dermabrasion
    • Microdermabrasion
    • Mechanical abrasion with dermatological sandpaper or scalpel
