The scene is very familiar: you buy that lipstick that you apparently liked, and after using it for the first time … mmm, it doesn't quite convince you. In the end, you leave it in your toiletry bag "just in case", but deep down you know that you won't use it again. Does it ring a bell?

Leaving cosmetics unused not only happens with makeup, it also happens with creams, hair products, perfumes and personal care items. However, far from throwing them away (and to be more eco-friendly), here we show you an alternative that you will love: donate them!

There are organizations in the United States dedicated to providing personal care and beauty services to women and girls who are experiencing illness or who have been victims of violence. As you may know, women who have experienced this type of situation need all the possible community support… and if you can help by donating the beauty products that you do not use, you cannot miss the opportunity!

Where to donate?

Some of the organizations that accept these types of donations are the Beauty Bus Foundation, Project Beauty Share, and Share Your Beauty.

One option to donate your products is to send them through land mail; Another is to go to a center yourself and make the delivery personally.

However, before going to the post office with your donation box, check the guidelines and available centers of each organization. This way you will see which is the best option for you and what products you can donate.

What to donate?

Creams, scrubs, nail polish, sunscreen, masks, eye creams, soaps, deodorants, brushes and shampoos are some of the products that you can donate. Please note that the products in jars must be new.

What NOT to donate?

Although your first reaction is to donate everything you have saved, you should keep in mind the following points:

You can donate new or lightly used products that are at least six months before their expiration date.

  • You cannot donate used items that require applicators such as mascara, gloss or liquid lipsticks, as well as liquid eyeliners; if so, they must be new.
  • Makeup such as foundations, loose powder shadows and highlighters must be new.

Carefully review the requirements of each organization so that your donations reach their destination and help someone else feel beautiful.
