On the eve of World Earth Day, I want to highlight the beautiful work of designer Dalia Pascal, whose ecological bags contain the charm and beauty of the Mayan culture.

Born in Uruguay, Pascal moved to Mexico when she was a teenager, an experience that she said changed her life. The explosion of colors, textures and artisan work, as well as music, were the key influence for her to become a designer years later. After starting with a line of jewelery whose hallmark is the "search for harmony, for the permanent, for the perfect and imperfectly aesthetic, for something that is not governed by fashion, but becomes part of the person who wears it "Pascal decided to take his creativity to the world of accessories. Her goal was not to continue doing more of the same, but to do something completely different from what was seen in stores. The result has been bags with designs that are characterized by being unique pieces, which stand out for their artisanal appearance and production techniques.

But the most interesting aspect of these bags is the fact that most of them are made from recycled fabrics and dresses from Guatemala and Mexico. Once the bag is finished, it is difficult to believe that the fabric used to be a dress, but Pascal achieves this by combining these fabrics (handmade by artisans), with leather, suede, patent leather, and adorns them with beads. In addition to using recyclable materials, the designer practices fair trade and buys fabrics directly from artisans. Together with the Mexican government, it has managed to obtain financing to train the children of these artisans to continue the tradition of producing handmade ethnic products. Last year,Pascal won the Most Socially Responsible Handbag award at the Handbag Designer Awards and currently continues to work on new collections and travel for inspiration.
