Colombian designer Adriana Castro is among the group of nominees for the Fashion Group International's Rising Star award in the accessories category. Castro, who has become famous for her collection of bags and belts, won the Miami 2011 award in the category of women's handbag and had the honor of opening Bogota International Fashion Week last year.
The Barranquillera received inspiration for her childhood zoocriadero (crocodile farm) collections from her father; Exotic animal skins including crocodile, ostrich, and python have become her professional hallmark and have enchanted celebrities like Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Stylist Patricia Field chose 5 of her bags to be part of the wardrobe of the four protagonists of "Sex and the City 2".
Her designs have been featured in famous publications such as: Vogue, Infashion, Marie Claire, US Weekly and the Colombian magazine Caras, among others.
This is the third consecutive year in which the Colombian receives the nomination, this time she will be competing with Deborah Sawath from Thale Blanc, Blythe Harris from Stella & Dot and Michelle Watson from Mimi & Lu, among others.
