Cuban-American designer Narciso Rodríguez will be honored at the Museo del Barrio's Annual Gala in New York on Thursday, May 17. Rodríguez gained international recognition after the late Carolyn Bessette (1966-1999) chose him to design her wedding dress for her marriage to John F. Kennedy, Jr., in 1996.

During the event, the designer will receive an award for his artistic achievements and his lifetime work with the organization. Proud of his Latin American descent, Rodríguez continually seeks inspiration from Latino art and culture. A three-time CFDA award winner (the equivalent of an Oscar in the design industry), Rodríguez is considered one of the most influential Latinos in the United States.

Joining Rodríguez will also be Yaz Hernández, who will receive an award for her leadership work as part of the museum's executive committee and former director of the Gala, and after being declared one of the most active and influential Latinas in New York by part of the New York Post.

Simultaneously, the museum will be awarding Bacardi USA, which reached the 150th year of its foundation, the 2012 Award for Corporate Excellence. The success story of this company has become an example to follow.

The Museum Gala brings together personalities from the world of fashion, entertainment, business, politics and the arts with a view to raising funds for the different causes of the museum. This year the funds raised will go to the museum's education programs, which reach 13,000 students from 150 schools.
